Our work supports the development of social skills and the confidence to take responsibility for re-entry into the community. Our goal is to help people towards and alcohol and drug-free lifestyle.
“Our goal is to help people towards an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle”
Chandos is a founder member of EATA — The European Association for the treatment of addiction (UK) and, as such, has adopted the policies, codes and guidelines set out by them.
We strive to ensure that the care you receive at Chandos is of the highest quality. You are required to participate actively in all house activities and in the planning of your recovery.
“..sufferers of addiction are empowered to change the self-defeating behaviours associated with active addiction”
Philosophy
Chandos offers a community based holistic integrative “abstinence-led” approach to recovery from addiction.
We at Chandos treatment centre integrate psychological, physical and spiritual approaches to growth, change and recovery.
“..learning is emphasised through feedback and experience”
A holistic philosophy is used in the case and treatment of individuals who engage in the centres service.
Specialisations include: mens issues and masculine psychology. Addictive relationships and addiction in general, co-dependancy (i.e. loss of boundary issues) and adult children from dysfunctional families.
We view addiction as a condition with identifiable and progressive symptoms. We maintain that it is a treatable condition and that ongoing recovery is possible.
Chandos exists to provide a setting where sufferers of addiction are empowered to change the self-defeating behaviours associated with active addiction.
Our course of treatment includes active therapeutic intervention by individual counselling, groupwork, workshops, complimentary and recreational therapies, where learning is emphasised through feedback and experience.
Chandos is committed to offering a safe and supportive
environment where all alcoholics/addicts are treated with
respect, regardless of race, age, sexual identity, HIV status,
disability, religion or nationality.
Accommodation
Chandos is a 10-bedded unit arranged in 4 double and 2 single
rooms, the majority of which have en-suite shower and toilet
facilities. Bed linen is provided. Staff have right of access to all
rooms and may remove items that are held in contravention to
House Rules or expectations.
The Chandos Culture
Chandos’s approach to treatment is holistic, in this context Chandos encourages the meeting of the needs of the needs of the whole person rather than those which the nightmare of addiction dictates.
The object is integration rather than separation and involvement rather than detachment. As addiction is a painful internal isolated state of low grade depression, then the sharing of space is an intrinsic part of learning to live with other people and avoiding relapse.
“The object is integration rather than detachment”
If you agree with the direction this takes you, I hope you will continue the process of change so your life becomes healthier and more fulfilling. Remember, change takes time, but it’s your life and it’s worth every bit of effort that you make.
We wish you luck and success in your journey.
Referrals
Our policy is to try and help men who recognize that alcohol and/or other substances are a problem for them and who have a genuine commitment to doing something about it.
There will be occasions when we will be unable to help because the applicant needs more than we can offer. In these situations, we are happy to discuss other options which may be available.
